Dear Members,

We are delighted to be able to host our first in-person event in over 2 years with the first installment of our 2022 Lecture Series. Kicking things off for the year, John Clifford will be presenting 'Copper in Europe. Production, Demand, Potential and Challenges'. An abstract for this talk can be found below.

"Europe has a long history of mineral exploration and mining. Its geology hosts copper resources in rocks of all Eras and has the potential for further discoveries. However, current production does not meet European demand. Without a change in policy and social attitude, this deficiency will only increase in the years to come, as the technologies required to transition into the zero-carbon emission future are all copper intensive. Recycling alone will not fill the gap. Thus, it is essential that we explore for, and more importantly develop, our indigenous resources. Gaining the social acceptance to do this, redesigning our mining practices, incorporating a new relationship model with communities local to exploration and mining operations, and developing a new business model to fund exploration will require engagement by all stakeholders."

The talk will take place on Thursday March 24th at the Pillo Hotel in Ashbourne starting at 7:00pm, with tea and coffee beforehand at 6:30pm for those of you who will be joining us in person. Online attendance is also available for those who can't make it to Ashbourne.

Registration is open via the website for both in-person attendees and online attendees, on this occasion we ask that all attendees register to give us an idea of numbers since this is the first in-person talk we have hosted in 2 years. A GoogleMeet link to access the talk online will follow on the day of the event, and will be sent to all registrants, even if you initially selected to attend in person.
